THE COMING OF HOMO (Latin: “wise man”) SAPIEN 2.0.

So what exactly does it mean to be “WOKE?”

Woke (/woʊk/ wohk) is a term originating in the United States that originally meant to be alert to racial prejudice and discrimination. Beginning in the 2010s, it came to encompass a broader awareness of social inequalities such as sexism, and has also been used as shorthand for left-wing ideas involving identity politics and social justice, such as the notion of white privilege and slavery reparations for African Americans.

The phrase stay woke had emerged in African-American Vernacular English by the 1930s, referring to awareness of the social and political issues affecting African Americans. The phrase was uttered in a recording by Lead Belly and later by Erykah Badu. Following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in 2014, the phrase was popularised by Black Lives Matter (BLM) activists seeking to raise awareness about police shootings of African Americans. After being popularized on Black Twitter, the term woke became an Internet meme and was increasingly used by white people, often to signal their support for BLM, which some commentators have criticised as cultural appropriation. Mainly associated with the millennial generation, the term spread internationally and was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017.

In essence, “wokeness” is defined as a conscious state of awareness of all social constructed and systemic injustices. In a word, deliberate wrongs and travesties of justice we take for granted, as if by deus ex machina. To be clear all sociohistorical and psychohistorical aren’t “vis major,” but rather exclusively created for men (white) by men (white).

A woke person understands, is aware of and recognises their mental models (white privilege, white fragility and so on) are informed (created) in their formative years and their education is seen as forms of brainwashing, without exception. They display a highly developed sense of empathy, a keen sense of social awareness and actively dedicate their time and money (some or all of) to alleviate the injustices happening all around them, as opposed to Performative Activism which is is a pejorative term (but accurate term) referring to activism done to increase one’s social capital rather than because of one’s devotion to a cause. It is often associated with surface-level activism, referred to as slacktivism. (Mostly people on social media platforms like Facebook also known as “keyboard warriors”)

A woke person is self-aware, is intellectually honest (or learns how to be), thinks sequentially and admits the privileges they derive from their racial, sexist, skin colour caste, class, gender or racial grouping.

A woke person takes an explicitly Derridian view across all their taught (secondary and tertiary education) ontologies and epistemologies and recognises the absolute value of how a person or group’s lived experiences defines them, their world view and by extension, their actions. FYI, this isn’t defined to black people only, as white people occupy the same piece of dirt, though their lived experiences are the polar opposite.

A woke person expends a huge amount of energy unlearning, relearning, learning new technologies and never defines the world through their own narrow lenses, understanding that their worldview is there’s only, not how the world really works or how it is experienced by others, particularly black people and women.

A woke person understands that they will in all likelihood have cognitive biases, so when in doubt, always defers to the person lower down the deliberately constructed social hierarchy. By definition, they work on their own biases and prejudices and express a deep desire to learn more about others and (especially the oppressed) world through a cultivated learning disposition.

A woke person understands that there should be a fluid congruency between their words and their actions. This mental model indeed defines them. When debating with them, they quickly concede when they or their argument/s are wrong, and are always willing to listen without the irrational fear of “being wrong.”

It can be said, that a woke people are the new breed of human being, the EVOLUTION OF THE SPECIES the new philosophers, prophets, revolutionaries, shamans and doers, indeed human angels that are the “thin blue line” between outright obsidian dystopia and the barely bearable world we exist in.
