I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS FILM! My mom (who’s usually my source for classic cinema) recommended this movie to me and after faffing around I finally got to see it and wow I was not disappointed at all! Acting has always been a passion of mine and after seeing how Dorsey (Hoffman) was always told “You’re too short!” or “We’re looking for someone else” I felt connected to this movie personally. I’ve had my fair share of those experiences with Casting Directors and just like Hoffman’s character I refuse to give up. My parents always told me to ‘Fake It till I Make It’ and that’s exactly what Dustin did when he assumed the role of Dorothy Michaels.

Of course things got complicated when he started to fall in love with his co-star Julie Nichols (Lange) but that’s a story for another day. The main takeaway from this film is that despite what the naysayers and haters say/do, if you believe in yourself and you believe you possess the power to accomplish something then nothing will stand in your way! Keep on persevering!

Classic films always seem to have some sort of lesson or message they want to convey and as a fan of the entire industry as a whole I suggest you watch this film. Hopefully it’ll inspire you the way it inspired me.
